Spotify Deletes Tens of Thousands of AI Songs Amid 'Sajaegi Controversy'
Music streaming platform Spotify has removed tens of thousands of songs created by artificial intelligence (AI).
On the 8th (local time), online music media 'Digital Music News' reported that Spotify deleted a significant number of songs created and uploaded through the generative AI of the music content creation service 'Boomy.' On the 2nd, Boomy announced via its Discord channel that "Recently, Spotify has deleted songs created through Boomy and has stopped posting newly uploaded music."
Boomy is a platform that allows anyone to create music using generative AI. Users can create music by adding various beats and upload it to streaming services like Spotify, earning royalties each time their songs are streamed. Boomy did not specify how many songs uploaded through its platform were deleted from Spotify, but it is known to be in the tens of thousands.
The reason Spotify removed songs produced by Boomy is due to allegations that the company manipulated listener counts using online bots (automated programs) to artificially inflate streaming numbers, a practice known as 'music chart manipulation.'
