Ahead of the release of the Park Won-soon glorification documentary... Kim Jae-ryeon calls for participation in stopping secondary harm
As news emerged that a documentary defending the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon is set to be released in July, sparking intense controversy over 'secondary victimization,' attorney Kim Jae-ryeon, representing the victim, has called for "firm participation to stop secondary victimization."
On the 9th, Attorney Kim stated through her social media (SNS), "Secondary victimization against the victim and against the lawyers supporting the victim continues relentlessly."
Although she did not specifically mention the documentary's release in her SNS post, it appears she pointed out that the documentary's release constitutes de facto 'secondary victimization.' Attorney Kim explained, "Seeing this situation, who would dare to expose sexual violence by those in power, and who would readily represent the victim? When the perpetrator is a powerful figure with a huge number of supporters, secondary victimization by supporters defending the perpetrator is like the heads of moles that keep popping up in a whack-a-mole game."
Attorney Kim emphasized, "What happens if one victim has to fight countless moles? The victim, already worn out and devastated, will inevitably collapse. I believe that after the victim raises their voice against the perpetrator, it is the members of our community?not the victim?who must confront secondary victimization."

She added, "I think people with common sense must speak up on behalf of the victim. The silence of community citizens becomes fertile ground for those committing secondary victimization to thrive. Will we create fertile soil that allows secondary victimization to grow vigorously, or will we eliminate the nourishment for secondary victimization through participation by saying, 'That behavior is wrong,' and 'It would be better to stop'? That choice depends on the courage and actions of ordinary people with common sense."
