Goheung-gun, Strong Impact of Online Connection for Local Festivals
Directly Operated Store 'Goheung Mall' Live Shopping Watched by 640,000 Viewers
Consecutive Sell-Outs, Achieving 160% of April Sales Target
Gohung-gun, Jeonnam Province (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that at the Gohung Aerospace Festival held for the first time in four years, it declared a "profitable festival" and achieved sales of 500 million KRW throughout April by operating "Gohung Mall" linked with local festivals.
According to the county, during the festival period (April 21 to April 23), a Naver live shopping event was held featuring seven seasonal agricultural and marine products such as fresh onions, octopus, and Spanish mackerel sashimi. More than 640,000 viewers watched the live broadcast, and Gohung Mall recorded sales of 170 million KRW over the three days of the festival.
Following continuous sales, total sales for April reached 500 million KRW, exceeding the initial sales target of 300 million KRW by 200 million KRW, achieving 160% of the goal.
Governor Gong Young-min said, "Local festivals aim to promote the region and revitalize the local economy. In that sense, the agricultural and marine product marketing strategy linked to this festival resulted in a steady increase in Gohung Mall sales even after the festival ended, making it a productive festival that practically benefits the residents."
A county official stated, "Due to the nature of agricultural and marine products, seasonal product planning must be prepared through sufficient communication with producers at least 2 to 3 months in advance for sales promotions to succeed," revealing the secret to their success.
Furthermore, "We will actively support Gohung Mall to achieve sales of 10 billion KRW in the shortest period among local government online malls, and we will do our best to create an environment where farmers and fishermen can focus solely on producing high-quality agricultural and marine products without worrying about sales channels," he added.
Meanwhile, Gohung Mall, which opened in September 2021, hosts about 610 diverse products and has secured approximately 52,000 members. Sales at the end of April reached 1.43 billion KRW, achieving 72% of the 2023 annual sales target of 2 billion KRW.
The county plans to continue the growth of Gohung Mall by planning seasonal products such as garlic, seaweed, and octopus in May, and peaches, blueberries, and corn in June.
