The square is located right in front of Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, the coronation venue, and is one of the key points along the coronation procession route.
While Smith was preparing placards and drinks at the square near the coronation site, police appeared and began inspecting and searching the protestors' procession.
The police found hundreds of yellow placards reading "Not My King" (#NotMyKing) in a vehicle, and subsequently arrested six protest organizers including Smith.
British police stated that "an important police operation is underway in central London" and that multiple arrests were made ahead of the coronation.
