"Aircraft as Golf Ball Markers"... Korean Air Launches Upcycling Products
Korean Air announced on the 4th that it has launched name tags and golf ball markers made from retired Boeing 777-200ER aircraft materials.
This is the third time Korean Air has produced and launched eco-friendly upcycling products using retired aircraft. Previously, in January 2021, Korean Air released name tags made from Boeing 777 aircraft materials. In September of the same year, it introduced name tags and golf ball markers made from Boeing 747-400 aircraft materials. Upcycling products made from retired aircraft materials have been extremely popular each time they were released.
The newly launched name tags and ball markers were made using materials from the dismantling process of the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with the registration number HL7715. This aircraft completed a total of 11,274 flights to 95 cities worldwide since its introduction and retired in March 2020 after its final flight from San Francisco to Incheon.
The upcycled name tags and ball markers were crafted by cutting out sections of the aircraft fuselage surface. The thickness and color vary depending on the part of the fuselage used. Both products are engraved with the lettering ‘BOEING 777-200ER’ and the aircraft serial number HL7715. Each product is assigned a unique serial number, adding to its rarity and value.
The name tags are available in two shapes, rectangular and polygonal, allowing customers to choose their preferred style. The golf ball marker set consists of two markers: one round and one half-moon shaped, enabling users to select according to their preference and use on the golf course.
The products are made from duralumin, a lightweight yet strong alloy used in aircraft manufacturing. A limited quantity of 5,000 name tags and 2,000 golf ball marker sets have been produced, making them highly collectible.
Korean Air sells the newly launched name tags and ball markers through the iSky Shop website. The selling price is 45,000 KRW for the name tag and 56,000 KRW for the ball marker set, with a purchase limit of one item per person per product type. Additionally, an engraving service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis for 2,000 name tags, allowing buyers to have their name and contact information engraved. The engraving service costs 2,500 KRW and can be applied for through the iSky Shop website.

Meanwhile, Korean Air is leading ESG management with various and creative eco-friendly initiatives beyond producing products using retired aircraft materials. In December 2022, it donated warming packs made from in-flight blankets that were partially damaged and could no longer be reused to help those in need. In February of this year, it also produced and launched eco-friendly pouches made from old life jackets.
