'Phantom Singer 3' Kang Dong-hoon, Runner-up at US National Opera Competition... First Korean to Achieve

On the 3rd, his agency DGNCOM announced that Kang Dong-hoon won the runner-up and the Audience Award, achieving a total of two crowns, at the ‘10th National Opera Competition 2023’ held in Washington D.C., USA, which concluded on the 30th of last month (local time).
Kang Dong-hoon expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am thankful because I feel that the efforts and struggles during my study abroad life have borne fruit, allowing me to grow a little more as a musician."
The 10th National Opera Competition is an event celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, hosted by the American organization PARTNERS for the Arts, Inc., aiming to develop the American opera scene and discover talented new vocalists.
The winner of this competition was soprano Magdalena Kuma, a young artist of the Metropolitan Opera, and third place was awarded to soprano Amanda Simms.

Bass baritone Kang Dong-hoon, born in 1991, graduated from Sunhwa Arts High School and completed his undergraduate degree in vocal music at Seoul National University as a full scholarship student with honors four years ago. He also completed a master's course in vocal music at the same university. Later, he appeared on JTBC’s crossover vocal group audition program ‘Phantom Singer 3,’ reaching the semifinals and gaining public recognition. He is currently enrolled as a full scholarship student in the master's vocal program at The Juilliard School in New York.
