Prosecutors Summon Former Aide to Song Young-gil for Investigation... Denies 'Money Envelope Delivery' Allegation
The prosecution investigating the Democratic Party of Korea's '2021 Party Convention Money Envelope Suspicion' is summoning and questioning Park Mo, a former aide to former leader Song Young-gil, on the 3rd.
The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-cheol) called Park in the morning as a suspect. Park denied all allegations to the press and responded "Of course" when asked if he had ever seen the money envelopes.
When asked whether he played a role connecting the external organization 'Peace and Livelihood Research Institute' (Meoksa-yeon) and former leader Song, or whether he was active in Meoksa-yeon, he flatly said "No" to all questions.
However, when asked about his relationship with Kang Rae-gu, former auditor of Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Lee Jeong-geun, former deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Party, he said, "The prosecution knows well," and added, "I will sincerely cooperate with the investigation," before heading to the interrogation room.
Park is suspected of acting as a 'delivery agent' through whom a total of 70 million won flowed from former leader Song's campaign to members of the National Assembly and delegates around the 2021 party convention. The prosecution believes that on April 27-28, 2021, a total of 60 million won prepared by Kang was divided into 20 envelopes of 3 million won each and handed over to Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok, with Park involved in the process. In particular, the prosecution suspects that Yoon distributed these money envelopes to dozens of Democratic Party lawmakers.
Park is also suspected of delivering 10 million won in cash procured by Kang in April 2021 to Lee. The prosecution is investigating on the understanding that Lee divided this money into 20 envelopes of 500,000 won each and handed them over to the regional situation chief.
