‘Gateway for Emerging Artists’ Hyundai Motor Group Announces VH Award Grand Prize Winner
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 3rd that it has revealed the grand prize winner of the 5th VH Award at the online platform Common Garden, attended by key figures in the domestic and international cultural and arts sectors, media artists, and past VH Award winners.
The grand prize was awarded to artist Subasi Tebe Limbu for his work ‘Ladhamba Tayem; Future Continuous.’ He explored new possibilities of the concept of time based on the weaving culture of Nepalese indigenous people. By imagining future indigenous people existing within the spacetime continuum, the artist revisits the history of past colonialism while posing questions about what kind of future to pursue.

The final five nominees were selected last August through judging by curators and art directors affiliated with global cultural and arts institutions. These artists received a production grant of $25,000 (approximately 33.5 million KRW). They also participated in the online residency program of iBeam, a global art technology specialist organization.
The grand prize winner will receive an additional prize of $25,000. The remaining four nominees will have their works screened at the Ars Electronica Festival, Electra online exhibition, and the Museum MACAN in Indonesia. The works can also be viewed at Vision Hall within Hyundai Motor Group’s Mabuk Campus until August.
Since 2016, the VH Award has supported the discovery and nurturing of emerging media artists in Korea. From the 4th edition, its scope expanded to Asia. It plays a role in broadening the media arts fields such as video art, film, games, animation, and motion graphics.
