Pohang City-Affiliated Organizations Hold Appointment Ceremony for New Directors of 'Pohang TP·POMIA'
New Director Expected to Play a Leading Role in Pohang's Second Leap
Fostering New Growth Industries, Sustainable Development, and Industrial Ecosystem Creation
On the 2nd, Pohang City awarded appointment letters to Bae Young-ho, the 9th director of Pohang Technopark, and Kim Heon-deok, the 6th director of Pohang Metal Materials Industry Promotion Agency, both of which are city-funded institutions.
On this day, the newly appointed directors of the funded institutions underwent procedures in accordance with the Act on the Operation of Local Government-Funded Institutions and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' notification on the operation standards for industrial technology complex project implementers, including ▲formation of the director recommendation committee ▲open recruitment ▲document and interview screening ▲candidate verification ▲board resolution ▲chairman’s appointment. In the case of appointing the director of Pohang Technopark, approval from the Minister of SMEs and Startups was obtained as required by law.
Bae Young-ho, the newly appointed director of Pohang Technopark, previously served as a professor in the IT Convergence Department at Uiduk University and at the Pohang Institute of Industrial Science and Technology. He is recognized as a suitable candidate for the director of Pohang Technopark due to his extensive industry-academia-research network aimed at fostering future new growth industries.
Kim Heon-deok, the newly appointed director of Pohang Metal Materials Industry Promotion Agency, is regarded as a figure with both academic insight and field experience in the steel sector, having worked at POSCO and served as the president of the Pohang Steelworks Cooperative Association.

The Pohang Metal Materials Industry Promotion Agency was established in 2007 with the joint efforts of industry, academia, research, and government to support technology for local steel-related small and medium enterprises.
It supports the growth of local small and medium-sized enterprises into strong companies by enhancing technological competitiveness, and strengthens the competitiveness of the Gyeongbuk East Coast steel belt, builds an integrated support system for fostering the high-quality steel pipe industry, develops technologies for the steel industry’s resurgence, and promotes the secondary battery industry, all aimed at improving manufacturing processes and product quality to enhance corporate capabilities.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “The role of local funded institutions in technological advancement and commercialization support is becoming more important than ever for the development of new growth industries,” adding, “We will do our best to revitalize the local economy and create jobs by producing groundbreaking results in regional industries.”

Along with the designation of the battery regulatory free zone and attracting large-scale investments from secondary battery companies, administrative efforts are focused on the designation of the secondary battery national advanced strategic industry specialized complex.
