KOSPI Closes at 2520 Level on Foreign and Institutional Dual Buying... Foreign Investors Net Buyers for 3 Consecutive Trading Days
The KOSPI index rose on the 2nd, supported by combined buying from foreigners and institutions, closing at the 2520 level.
On this day, the KOSPI index closed at 2524.39, up 0.91% (22.86 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI started at 2504.01, up 0.10% (2.48 points) from the previous close, then expanded its gains and settled in the 2520 range.
The combined buying power of foreigners and institutions drove the index higher. Foreigners net purchased stocks worth 344.7 billion KRW, and institutions net purchased stocks worth 228 billion KRW. Individuals sold stocks worth 551.1 billion KRW. Foreigners have been net buyers for three consecutive trading days, and institutions switched to net buying after four trading days.
Lee Kyung-min, a researcher at Daishin Securities, analyzed, “With the FOMC meeting approaching, there was no additional upward momentum, leading to cautious sentiment and the KOSPI’s upper range being capped.”
Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, all closed higher except Samsung Biologics (-1.79%). Samsung Electronics (0.31%), LG Energy Solution (1.72%), SK Hynix (0.78%), LG Chem (0.81%), Samsung SDI (1.30%), Hyundai Motor (2.03%), Kia (2.84%), and POSCO Holdings (1.33%) all ended higher.
By sector, the market closed higher in the following order: Medical Precision (3.15%), Textile & Apparel (1.97%), Transportation Equipment (1.91%), Steel & Metals (1.72%), Telecommunications (1.59%), and Distribution (1.55%).
The KOSDAQ closed at 855.61, up 1.52% (12.78 points) from the previous close. The index opened at 845.18, up 0.28% (2.35 points) from the previous trading day, then expanded its gains and settled above the 850 level.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions also led the KOSDAQ’s rise, net purchasing stocks worth 156.9 billion KRW and 67.8 billion KRW respectively. Individuals net sold stocks worth 225.1 billion KRW.
Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, Celltrion Healthcare (-1.01%), L&F (-0.19%), and Celltrion Pharm (-0.25%) closed lower, while the remaining stocks all closed higher. These include EcoPro (0.41%), HLB (0.28%), Kakao Games (1.49%), JYP Ent. (3.99%), Osstem Implant (0.54%), and Pearl Abyss (2.90%). EcoPro BM closed flat.
By sector, all sectors except Transportation (-4.04%) and Distribution (-0.16%) recorded gains. These include Leisure & Culture (3.84%), Chemicals (3.10%), Medical Precision (2.73%), Other Services (2.39%), Machinery & Equipment (2.39%), and Transportation Equipment Parts (2.22%).
