Yeosu Industrial Complex, Establishing Explosion-Proof and Fire Safety Infrastructure for Smart Plants

Selected by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Contest, 16.5 Billion KRW in National Funding

A 25.5 billion KRW-scale 'Petrochemical Plant Explosion-Proof and Fire Safety Infrastructure' will be established within the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, the largest chemical industrial complex in the Republic of Korea.

According to Yeosu City on the 2nd, the Korea Construction Living Environment Testing & Research Institute (KCL) was selected for the 'Jeonnam Yeosu Smart Green Industrial Complex Smart Plant Explosion-Proof and Fire Safety Infrastructure Construction Project' led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 16.5 billion KRW in national funding.

Accordingly, KCL will invest a total project cost of 25.5 billion KRW over three years starting this year to build infrastructure for testing, certification, and education related to explosion-proof and fire safety of petrochemical plants in the Future Innovation District within the Yeosu Industrial Complex.

In collaboration with institutions such as the Jeonnam Yeosu Industry-Academia Convergence Center and Jeonnam National University Process Innovation Simulation Center within the Future Innovation District, initiatives such as 'KCs (Safety Certification) certification agency and domestic and international explosion-proof certification consulting support' and 'development of explosion-proof education programs and training of specialized personnel' will be promoted.

Yeosu City, which is striving to prevent accidents within the industrial complex through the establishment of a digital environment and safety integrated platform, plans to actively support this project both administratively and financially.

A city official said, "With this project selection, we expect to strengthen explosion-proof industry technological capabilities in the national industrial complex exposed to explosion and fire accidents, enhance corporate competitiveness, and greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
