HD Hyundai, the intermediate holding company for shipbuilding, has successfully secured orders for 12 gas carriers worth a total of 2.79 trillion KRW over three days.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on the 2nd that it signed construction contracts for a total of 8 vessels worth 2.423 trillion KRW, including two 200,000㎥ LNG carriers, four 174,000㎥ LNG carriers, and two 88,000㎥ LPG carriers.

Notably, all 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers will be equipped with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering’s self-developed 'Hi-ERSN (LNG Re-liquefaction System)' and Hi-ALS (Next-generation Air Lubrication System).
Hi-ERSN is a system that fully re-liquefies boil-off gas generated in LNG cargo tanks. It uses nitrogen, which is common in the air, as the refrigerant, making it environmentally friendly and improving energy efficiency by more than 20% compared to existing systems. Hi-ALS supplies air to the hull surface to reduce frictional resistance, thereby reducing both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The 88,000㎥ LPG carriers ordered from an Asian shipping company will be built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, and delivered to the shipowner in the second half of 2026. These vessels will have the maximum size capable of passing through the Old Panama Canal and will be equipped with LPG dual-fuel propulsion engines. They will also be constructed to carry ammonia, which is gaining attention as an eco-friendly energy source.
Meanwhile, on the 26th, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering secured orders for four 45,000㎥ LPG carriers worth a total of 367.4 billion KRW from an Asian shipping company. These vessels will be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan and delivered sequentially by the first half of 2026.
