Kim Young-sik, Chairman of SK Hynix Carbon Management Committee, "Focusing on Securing Net Zero Competitiveness"
Carbon Management Committee Establishes Net Zero and RE100 Achievement Strategies to Reflect in Business Management Plans
SK Hynix has established a Carbon Management Committee to achieve net zero by 2050 (the concept of reducing greenhouse gas net emissions to zero). Kim Young-sik, Chairman of the SK Hynix Carbon Management Committee, announced plans to secure net zero competitiveness through technological innovation, such as identifying greenhouse gas reduction items and integrating greenhouse gas reduction technologies into future semiconductors. In this process, the goal is also to increase partner participation and enhance the overall sustainability of the ecosystem.
On the 2nd, SK Hynix released an interview with Kim Young-sik, Chairman of the SK Hynix Carbon Management Committee, on its newsroom. Chairman Kim, who is the Vice President of Manufacturing and Technology at SK Hynix, has been leading and operating the Carbon Management Committee established in January last year.
The Carbon Management Committee is responsible for establishing strategies to achieve net zero and RE100 (100% renewable energy replacement) and reflecting these in the company's mid- to long-term management strategies. They are promoting low-power equipment development, process gas reduction, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation (DT)-based energy savings. More than 100 technical personnel belong to the committee.

He added, "In the mid- to long term, there is the task of integrating greenhouse gas reduction technologies into future semiconductors," and explained, "the most important driving force is the members and partners."
Chairman Kim is communicating by emphasizing that "developing carbon reduction technologies leads directly to personal and company growth" to encourage participation from members. He is also increasing partner participation and establishing Scope 3 strategies with them. Through this, the plan is to secure 'net zero competitiveness' for the entire ecosystem.
