50 Years Since Cheonmachong Excavation... Declaration of Growth Vision for 'K-Tourism'
‘1973, Awakening Cheonma’ Vision Declaration Ceremony Held
The Cultural Heritage Administration will hold the vision declaration ceremony titled ‘1973, Awakening Cheonma’ on the 4th at a temporary stage within Daereungwon in Gyeongju. This event reflects on the achievements and developments of the 50 years since the excavation of Cheonmachong, with the theme ‘Revisiting Cheonmachong 50, Silla-Wave Again’.
The vision declaration ceremony will be attended by the heads of five institutions including the Cultural Heritage Administration, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongju City, and the National Gyeongju Museum, as well as the lead excavator of Cheonmachong in 1973, local members of the National Assembly, and the chairman of the Cultural Heritage Committee of the Cultural Heritage Administration.
The 50th-anniversary commemorative video of the Cheonmachong excavation, unveiled for the first time at the event, was created by the world-renowned dancer Just Jerk. He personally appeared and expressed the dynamic image of the ‘Cheonma’ through ‘K-dance’.
As part of the event, the National Gyeongju Museum will hold a special exhibition titled ‘Cheonma, Meeting Again’ from May 4. The ‘Cheonmado’ (天馬圖), which was painted on birch bark and had been rarely displayed due to its sensitivity to light, will be open to visitors from May 4 to July 16.
