Civilian Marine Corps Unauthorized Entry into Base... Roaming for 2 Hours
An incident occurred where a civilian impersonating a member of the Republic of Korea Army Counterintelligence Command unlawfully trespassed into a Marine Corps base.
According to military sources on the 1st, on the 28th of last month at around 4:20 PM, a civilian male, Mr. A, entered a Marine Corps division at the Pohang Naval Base and remained there for over two and a half hours.
That day was the day of the Sergeant Major Change of Command Ceremony (inauguration and retirement ceremony), so there were many outsiders who came to celebrate, and Mr. A is reported to have passed the security check by blending in with them.
The Marine Corps apprehended Mr. A at around 6:50 PM, when it had started to get dark and he was still wandering inside the base.

Mr. A told military personnel he encountered inside the base that he was affiliated with the Counterintelligence Command, but it was confirmed that he had no connection to the unit. The military police verified Mr. A’s identity and initially sent him home, and an investigation is underway to determine whether he violated the Military Criminal Act and the Act on the Protection of Military Bases and Military Facilities.
