Teenage Group Caught After Stealing Mercedes, Causing Accident, and Fleeing Scene
Youth who stole a parked passenger car, crashed into a commercial building, and fled were caught by the police.
On the 29th, the Gwangju Western Police Station announced that three middle school students, including A, were booked without detention on charges of theft and violation of the Road Traffic Act.
They are suspected of stealing a luxury foreign car parked near an apartment in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 27th, driving it without a license, and crashing into the wall of a commercial building in Pungam-dong, Seo-gu around 3 p.m. the previous day before fleeing.
There were no casualties in the accident, but part of the first-floor commercial area of the building was damaged.
According to the police investigation, they initially planned to steal valuables from an unlocked vehicle but found a passenger car with the key stored inside and stole the entire vehicle.
The police tracked their movements and arrested A and others wandering the streets of Buk-gu two days after the theft, on the 29th. It was reported that one of them is a juvenile under 14 years old and is therefore exempt from criminal punishment as a juvenile offender.
