The ‘Gam(tan)Seo-gu Environmental Education’ involved an environmental education specialist coordinator visiting Gwangdeok Middle School and Woosung Regional Childcare Center to explain the relationship between climate change and resource circulation, the necessity of renewable energy, and the greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels.
At the lobby on the first floor of Ssangchon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, the ‘Gam(tan) Image Exhibition’ aimed at fostering a culture of carbon neutrality in daily life is being held until the 12th of next month.
Earlier, at the Children’s Ecology Learning Library, in connection with the ‘Book-Picnic’ program, activities such as making accessories using leftover sock yarn and upcycling using tiles, called ‘Upcycling Picnic,’ were conducted for library users.
Seo-gu promoted the ‘Carbon Nyamnyam Campaign’ in collaboration with the Seo-gu Village Network (Irak) in line with the April climate action theme, ‘Let’s Love Our Agricultural Products.’
The campaign involved promoting local agricultural products with relatively low carbon emissions and sharing carbon-neutral practices by providing vegetable seedlings for direct cultivation.
Through the ‘Little Farmer Experience Program’ at nine national and public daycare centers, children engaged in activities such as planting tomatoes themselves.
Additionally, Seo-gu held a ‘Lights-off Event’ for 10 minutes from 8 p.m. on Earth Day, the 22nd.
A total of 41 locations participated in this event, including the Seo-gu Office building, 17 apartments participating in the ‘Gwangju Temperature Reduction Excellent Apartment Project,’ Emart Gwangju Branch, Lotte Outlet World Cup Branch, and Ivy Motors Volvo Gwangju Showroom.
A Seo-gu official said, “Through the 15th Climate Change Week, we hope everyone will reflect on the preciousness of the Earth and actively participate in making Gam(tan) Seo-gu.”
