The event, organized by the Jaegyeong Gaya High School Alumni Association and combined with a welcome ceremony for freshmen university students in the Seoul area, was held on the 27th at 6 p.m. at the National Press Club inside the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.
About 60 alumni attended the event, including Park Hyung-jun, principal of Gaya High School; former principal Kim Hwa-jung; Do Hoon-tae, chief judge of the Cheonan branch of the Daejeon District Court; and Kang Ho-seok, national squash team coach, making the event a great success.
The university freshmen mentees who attended were Kim Gyu-nam (Department of Food and Nutrition, Kyung Hee University), Nam Hye-jung (Department of Statistics, Sungkyunkwan University), Lee Tae-rin (Department of Biotechnology, Korea University), Jung Tae-won (Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Dongguk University), Choi Ji-bin (Department of Human-Machine Bioengineering, Ewha Womans University), and Hong Seung-man (Department of Industrial Engineering, Seoul National University of Science and Technology).

Kim Gyu-nam and Lee Tae-rin are currently communicating with temporary mentors Choi In-seok, auditor of Kaesong E&C, and Park Sung-ha, lawyer at Dongin Law Firm, and will select official mentors once the mentoring topics become more specific.
Kim Jin-wook, president of the Jaegyeong Gaya High School Alumni Association, said in his welcoming speech, “Today’s main stars are the youngest juniors of the 69th class,” and added, “I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for the Jaegyeong Alumni Association to further develop and become more active.”
Park Hyung-jun, principal of Gaya High School, said in his congratulatory speech, “I am encouraged by the fact that alumni have opened the way for current students to maintain close ties until they enter society through mentee-mentor pairings, scholarship awards, and career special lectures,” and added, “We will strive to inherit the tradition of this prestigious high school through various educational programs and environmental improvements.”
Kim Chang-ryong, head of the Gaya High School Alumni Mentor Group, said, “With the mentee-mentor pairing ceremony as a starting point, we expect a strong alumni culture to form where senior alumni help juniors with their studies and social advancement, and juniors respond with respect and trust,” and added, “We plan to expand mentoring to include university sophomores and juniors.”
Gu Kyung-yeol, director of the BNB Scholarship Foundation, said, “As of today, the total number of scholarship recipients from Gaya High School has reached 40,” and added, “We will provide 70 million KRW in scholarships this year and continue to support the Jaegyeong Alumni Association and the Alumni Mentor Group to contribute to the development of our alma mater.”
On the same day, a mentoring case video was introduced featuring Jung Joo-seok, a sophomore in the Department of Film Studies at Dong-Eui University (68th class), who fulfilled his dream of becoming a film director by learning the entire process of filming, editing, and broadcasting at TV Chosun for 10 days during winter break with the help of Lee Ki-hoon, CEO of CM Networks. Based on this experience, Jung Joo-seok is now guiding students in the Gaya High School broadcasting club, serving as a model case where a mentee has become a mentor.
