Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Council Appoints 5 New Policy Support Officers
The Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Kim Tae-wan) announced on the 28th that it has newly appointed five policy support officers to strengthen expertise.
'Policy support officers' are specialized personnel who provide policy support for council members' legislative activities to enhance the expertise of local councils. According to the Local Autonomy Act, which was fully revised in January last year, they are to be introduced gradually within the range of half the number of council members.
The Gwangsan District Council had initially hired two policy support officers each in April and November last year, and with the additional five hires this time, it has fully staffed nine officers, which is half of the total 18 council members.
After document screening in February and interviews in March, five successful candidates were selected from a total of 16 applicants with a competition rate of 3.2 to 1.
The newly appointed policy support officers will work alongside the existing staff to support council members' legislative activities overall, including ▲ collecting, investigating, and researching legislative materials ▲ drafting, revising, and repealing ordinances ▲ administrative audits and investigations ▲ deliberation and resolution of budgets and settlements ▲ preparing inquiries on district administration and compiling related data.
