Series Ventures invests seed funding in Belabel Bio
Series Ventures, a specialized accelerator in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Buulkyung) region, has made a seed investment in Bellabel Bio, a company that develops functional bio-materials and provides industrialization solutions. This investment was made through ‘Series Strong 2nd Cohort,’ the first private batch accelerating program operated by Series Ventures in the Buulkyung region.
With the secured investment, Bellabel Bio plans to strengthen its R&D capabilities, including patent applications and registrations through efficacy testing of natural functional materials, as well as domestic and international certification processes. The company also aims to expand its sales and marketing capabilities.
Bellabel Bio is a startup specializing in the development of natural bio-materials and health functional foods, based on efficacy verification of functional substances through an efficacy screening system using domestically sourced natural raw materials. The company plans to grow into a business that expands into upstream industries such as raw materials (seeds) and cultivation using smart farms, as well as downstream industries including production and sales of health functional foods and beauty finished products. Additionally, Bellabel Bio intends to apply its know-how in raw material cultivation using smart farms and utilize its database to develop smart farm cultivation clouding services.
Jung Byung-chan, CEO of Bellabel Bio, stated, “This investment will be used to strengthen R&D by assembling development personnel, progressing patent work, and acquiring individual recognition. We believe it will greatly help in securing follow-up investments and materials. We will strive for rapid company growth so that benefits can be returned to investors and company members.”
Seong-wook Kwak, CEO of Series Ventures, who led the investment, said, “The development of genetic resource materials by Bellabel Bio is a core area among the top 10 super-gap sectors. The team consists of members with the highest expertise in the industry. We positively evaluated their strong business capabilities in both material development and industrialization solution development, which led us to invest.”
Meanwhile, Bellabel Bio will be the first company from Gyeongnam to challenge the ‘Deep Tech (Specialized) TIPS’ program, which is a follow-up measure of the newly established ‘Super-gap Startup 1000+ Project’ this year. This program supports startups in the top 10 super-gap sectors that have attracted investments of over 300 million KRW, providing up to 1.5 billion KRW in R&D funding over three years.
