Jeong Seong-ho "At Yoon's dinner, singing American Pie... lacks substance"
Jeong Seong-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the South Korea-US summit and President Yoon Seok-yeol's visit to the US, saying, "Did we just give cash and receive only unreliable promissory notes?"
On the 28th, Jeong said on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs,' "It seems a lot of preparation and effort were made, but aside from singing 'American Pie' at the state dinner, there was nothing much," expressing his criticism.
Jeong said, "I have some doubts about what the concrete and practical achievements are," adding, "People evaluate that the Washington Declaration gave our people reassurance about North Korea's nuclear weapons, but I don't really understand what is particularly different from the past regarding the Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) mentioned in the Washington Declaration."
He pointed out, "The important issue is ultimately the economy," and said, "Regarding the Semiconductor Act or the Inflation Reduction Act, the concerns we had do not seem to have progressed at all."
Jeong said, "There are reports that China was briefed in advance about this content before the Washington Declaration, which was also mentioned by a senior US official," and criticized, "In that respect, China and the US have a somewhat advanced relationship due to semiconductor issues, and in fact, the US is in considerable confrontation with China in the process of strengthening its global hegemony. Haven't we clearly taken the US side on the Taiwan issue as well?"

Earlier, Jeong apologized after causing controversy by referring to the 'cash envelope suspicion' as "fuel and meal expenses." When asked about this by the host, he said, "The core intention of what I said at the time was that if this is true, it is a very shameful matter and I apologized to the people first," adding, "It is very shameful, and regardless of whether it was spent as actual expenses or otherwise, since the law does not permit it, our Democratic Party has no excuse, and I do not deny that the money was spent on such costs."
