Daejeon City "Daejeon Sarang Card Issued on the 1st of Next Month... 3% Cashback"
The local currency in Daejeon will be renamed as the ‘Daejeon Sarang Card’ (formerly Ontong Daejeon) and its issuance will resume. Changes will be made not only to the name but also to the issuance period, monthly purchase limits, and cashback rates.
The Daejeon city government announced on the 28th that the Daejeon Sarang Card will be issued starting from the 1st of next month.
Unlike the previous continuous operation, the Daejeon Sarang Card will be issued during specific periods such as May to June and August to November.
Cashback will be provided only during these periods at a rate of 3% (5% for direct purchases), and the monthly purchase limit is set at 300,000 KRW (previously 500,000 KRW).
However, the city plans to provide a total cashback of 10%, which includes the basic 3% plus an additional 7%, to welfare recipients such as basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, legally single-parent families, basic pension and disability pension recipients, and national merit recipients when they pay with the Daejeon Sarang Card at merchants with annual sales under 500 million KRW during the cashback period.
To receive the 10% cashback for welfare recipients, they must first apply for and confirm the welfare user benefits of the Daejeon Sarang Card through the Daejeon Sarang Card app and website.
The city has been accepting applications for welfare user benefits through the Daejeon Sarang Card app and website since the 20th of last month and is in the process of confirming eligible recipients. Applications can be submitted until the end of October this year.
Welfare recipients of the Daejeon Sarang Card can search for merchants with annual sales under 500 million KRW using the ‘Find Merchant’ feature in the Daejeon Sarang Card app.
The city plans to sequentially send merchant stickers and notices to merchants with annual sales under 500 million KRW.
Support for reasonably priced stores through the Daejeon Sarang Card will also be carried out simultaneously. Starting from the 1st of next month, the city will implement the ‘Reasonably Priced Store Consumer Support’ program, which provides a 5% policy allowance on the payment amount when paying with the Daejeon Sarang Card charging balance.
Additionally, the city plans to introduce the ‘Neighborhood Love Donation System’ within next month, allowing users to donate 1% of their charging balance usage to their desired local area.
The Daejeon Sarang Card can be newly issued or used for charging and payment services with the previously used Ontong Daejeon card.
