Governor Kim attended the opening ceremony of the "13th Gyeonggi Province Disabled Sports Competition" held at Seongnam City Sports Complex and said, "One of the important directions of provincial administration is the disabled, and as an avid sports fan, this sports competition is doubly meaningful and significant," adding, "I promise to create a Gyeonggi Province where people with disabilities want to live, can dream, and where there is no discrimination between people with and without disabilities."
He also referred to the direction of Gyeonggi Province's disability policies announced at the Gyeonggi Province Disabled Day ceremony on the 20th.
Among the major policies introduced by the province is the start of integrated operation of the Special Transportation Means Metropolitan Mobility Support Center, linked across 31 cities and counties, to secure freedom of movement for people with disabilities. To provide reliable care services for people with severe disabilities, a nationwide first survey on the care status of 1,500 "most severely developmentally disabled" individuals will also be conducted.
Governor Kim also emphasized the opportunity income for the disabled, a representative policy of the 8th local government administration.
In his greeting at the pre-competition reception, he said, "We are preparing 'opportunity income' for people with disabilities, which supports those who create socially important value but are not compensated," and urged, "Many provincial council members have come to today's event, so please ensure the passage of the ordinance on opportunity income for the disabled in June."
The opportunity income for the disabled involves providing a total of 300,000 KRW over six months, with 50,000 KRW per month, to about 2,000 people with 'severe disabilities' in the province. The purpose is to encourage active social participation of people with disabilities who find social activities difficult and to promote activities that create social value such as health improvement and social engagement for the disabled. The province plans to submit the related ordinance to the provincial council in June and, once passed, will promptly proceed with recruitment and payment procedures.
