China warns Yoon and Biden on Taiwan mention: "Do not take the dangerous path"
Targeting the Washington Declaration: "The United States is Creating Tensions on the Korean Peninsula"
The Chinese government strongly opposed the mention of the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in the joint statement of the South Korea-US summit.
On the 27th, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing, "The United States and South Korea should correctly recognize the reality of the Taiwan issue, respect the One-China principle, and be cautious in their words and actions regarding the Taiwan issue," adding, "Do not go further down the wrong and dangerous path."
Spokesperson Mao emphasized, "The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair and the core of China's core interests," and "Resolving the Taiwan issue is the responsibility of the Chinese people, and any interference by external forces is absolutely unacceptable."
He continued, "The essence of the Taiwan issue is that both sides of the strait belong to one China; Taiwan is a part of China, and China's sovereignty and territory have never been divided," and criticized, "It is the external forces attempting to create two Chinas that are the main culprits destroying the status quo in the Taiwan Strait."
President Yoon Suk-yeol and US President Joe Biden held a South Korea-US summit in Washington DC and stated in the joint statement that "the two leaders reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait as an essential element of regional security and prosperity."
They also explicitly stated, "We strongly oppose any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the Indo-Pacific, including illegal maritime claims, militarization of reclaimed areas, and coercive actions."
Spokesperson Mao also strongly condemned the adoption of the 'Washington Declaration' at the South Korea-US summit, which strengthens extended deterrence, calling it an act that stirs tension.
Regarding extended deterrence, he said, "The Korean Peninsula issue is very complex and sensitive," and argued, "All parties should face the Korean Peninsula issue squarely, promote peaceful resolution, and play a constructive role in achieving political solutions through dialogue and negotiations, rather than deliberately creating tension and exaggerating threats."
He criticized, "The United States has expanded problems and stirred tensions in the Korean Peninsula issue without considering regional security for its geopolitical self-interest."

He further stated, "The US approach is filled with Cold War thinking, incites bloc confrontation, destroys the nuclear non-proliferation regime, harms other countries' strategic interests, intensifies tensions on the Korean Peninsula, and undermines regional peace and stability," adding, "This runs counter to the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, and China firmly opposes it."
