Focus on Building a Population Base of 100,000 in 10 Years

Discussion on Population Growth Promotion Strategies and Key Implementation Tasks

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced on the 27th that it held the first briefing session for the ‘Gohung-type Population Policy Roadmap’ research project at Heungyang Hall in the county office.

This briefing session was held to derive a population policy roadmap suitable for Gohung-gun by analyzing the socio-structural population phenomena of Gohung-gun and establishing strategies according to changes in the population structure.

The briefing session was attended by about 40 people, including Governor Gong Yeong-min, heads of departments and divisions, and town and township chiefs, sharing opinions and discussing population increase measures under the vision of the 8th elected term, ‘Establishing a foundation for a population of 100,000 in Gohung in 10 years.’

After setting the basic direction, strategies, and goals for responding to population decline through SWOT analysis of the population conditions in Gohung-gun, short- and mid-to-long-term action tasks were presented based on this.

Next, short-term tasks such as ▲promoting a homecoming and rural migration movement targeting baby boomers and retirees from urban areas ▲creating an atmosphere in Gohung as the No. 1 place for returnees to farming and fishing through the Gohung 愛 Address Holding Campaign, and mid-to-long-term action tasks according to three major strategies: ▲enhancing population vitality by expanding the living population ▲strengthening the function of the population dam through improving the residential environment ▲improving quality of life from birth to old age were introduced in order.

Governor Gong Yeong-min requested, “To establish a foundation for a population of 100,000 in Gohung in 10 years, please establish practical tasks suitable for our county’s circumstances and create an effective roadmap that can revitalize the region by responding to changes in the population structure.”

Meanwhile, as issues related to population decline and changes in the population structure are being raised, Gohung-gun is actively communicating from various perspectives to respond to changes in the population structure and discover population policies suitable for local conditions.

In January and February, through ‘Regional Development Strategy Discussions’ in 16 towns and townships, various opinions of residents were collected to overcome the crisis of regional extinction, and based on the results of this first briefing session, expert advice, opinions from various sectors, and a supplementation process will be conducted to prepare a population policy roadmap suitable for local conditions.
