KT, Korea's First 5G-Based Voice Call Service Pilot Operation
Galaxy S22 Used by 700 Employees
Feedback Collected for Commercial Launch to Customers
On the 27th, KT announced that it will conduct a pilot service for the country's first 5G-based voice call VoNR (Voice over New Radio). Approximately 700 of its employees are the target. 5G voice calls (VoNR) are a technology that has a shorter connection time and enables high-speed data transmission during calls compared to LTE-based (VoLTE) voice calls currently provided by the three major telecom companies.
KT will pilot the VoNR service for about 700 employees using Galaxy S22 series devices. After gathering feedback, the company plans to prepare the service for customers in the future. VoNR technology enables high-quality calls by utilizing 5G standalone mode (SA) infrastructure and is expected to improve customer satisfaction when providing services, as it can serve as a foundation for implementing various services such as metaverse and AR/VR in the future.
