Daejeon Civil Affairs Judicial Police Focus on Cracking Down on Origin Labeling Violations and More
The Daejeon City Civil Affairs Judicial Police announced on the 27th that from May to June, the investigation teams will be divided to focus on cracking down on violations of origin labeling, genetic testing of Korean beef (Hanwoo), illegal operations of food distribution and sales establishments, and waste-related businesses around residential areas.
During this period, Investigation Team 1 will inspect false or missing origin labeling of agricultural (and marine) products in food service establishments and randomly purchase Hanwoo distributed and sold locally to conduct precise genetic (DNA) testing to verify whether the beef is domestically produced.
Investigation Team 2 will conduct crackdowns targeting food distribution and sales establishments. The main targets include unreported food distribution and sales activities, sales of food violating standards and specifications, unregistered business operations, and distribution of products past their expiration dates.
Businesses caught during the crackdown will be simultaneously referred to the prosecution and requested for administrative sanctions.
Investigation Team 3 plans to focus on whether waste treatment facilities of waste-related businesses around residential areas comply with reporting requirements, and whether unauthorized or unreported activities and proper waste treatment are being conducted.
