A 'Baekro Saekki Raising Guide Center' Established at Ulsan Taehwagang River
April 27 to August 8 at Taehwa-dong Ecotourism Experience Center
Watching Growth Videos and Commentary on Grey Heron, Great Egret, and Cattle Egret
How do egret chicks grow and leave the nest? A friendly ‘Explanation Center’ that answers such curiosities has been established in Ulsan Taehwagang, the land of egrets.
Ulsan City, together with the Taehwagang Ecotourism Council, will operate the ‘Taehwagang Egret Chick Rearing Explanation Center’ at the Taehwagang Ecotourism Permanent Experience Center from the 27th to August 8th.
Additionally, from May 16th to 30th, it will be intensively operated to welcome guests for the National (Disabled Students) Youth Sports Festival.
During the intensive operation period, a program to find and record seven species of egrets in Taehwagang will be conducted, and a space where visitors can take photos with egrets will also be set up.
The operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including public holidays. However, it will be closed in case of rain.
Visitors to the explanation center can watch videos of a Grey Heron that laid two eggs and raised chicks from April to July 2020, and a video showing the process of a Great Egret chick hatched from three eggs in 2021 growing and leaving the nest.
They can also directly enjoy a video of a Cattle Egret that laid five eggs and raised all chicks to leave the nest, recorded for the first time nationwide in 2022. Natural environment interpreters provide explanations about this series of processes.
There is also time to use telescopes to find seven species of egrets (Grey Heron, Great Egret, Intermediate Egret, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, and White-winged Black-crowned Night Heron) visiting the bamboo forest.
After observation, visitors can choose one of the seven egret species and experience making a circular badge (pin button) themselves.
An official from Ulsan City said, “We hope for much interest and participation in this unique ecotourism content where people can see and hear explanations about egrets born and raised in the Taehwagang bamboo forest,” adding, “We plan to widely promote the Samho Bamboo Forest in Taehwagang, a nesting place for egrets and various migratory birds.”
