Busan City Hosts Busan Future Economy Forum Inviting Quantum Physics Expert Kim Sang-wook
8:00 AM on the 28th at Busan City Hall, Invitation of 'Professor Kim Sang-wook, Department of Physics, Kyung Hee University'
Quantum Initiative ... Lecture and Discussion on 'Quantum Choice of Quantum Computers'
Busan City will host the 78th Busan Future Economy Forum on the 28th at 8 a.m. in the International Conference Hall on the 12th floor of City Hall, inviting Professor Kim Sang-wook from the Department of Physics, College of Science, Kyung Hee University.
Professor Kim Sang-wook earned his Ph.D. in Physics from KAIST and has worked in Germany, Japan, Austria, and other countries. He is renowned as a leading scholar in the field of quantum physics, contributing to the popularization of physics through numerous books and broadcasts.
The city organized this lecture to enhance understanding and awareness of quantum technology, a game changer in the digital era, and to utilize it for policy purposes.
About 150 participants, including key city officials, heads of public corporations and foundations, presidents of universities located in Busan, and businesspeople, will attend the lecture. Professor Kim will speak on the topic “Quantum Choice of Quantum Computers,” followed by a Q&A session with the attendees.
As governments and companies worldwide compete to commercialize quantum technology, the Korean government designated quantum as one of the “12 National Strategic Technologies” at the National Science and Technology Advisory Council chaired by the President on October 28 last year. It is included in the 15 projects of the “New Growth 4.0 Strategy,” aiming to become one of the “Top 4 Quantum Technology Powers by 2030.”
In response to this trend, Busan City swiftly moved to secure quantum information technology by signing a business agreement with IBM in June last year to foster a quantum computing ecosystem. In February this year, the city announced a project to build the “Global Quantum Complex,” a state-of-the-art office and research complex equipped with the nation’s first quantum computing hub facility, utilizing the auxiliary facilities site of BEXCO in Haeundae (construction to start in 2024 and completion expected in 2027).
In October last year, the city formed the “Busan Quantum Information Technology Advisory Committee” (Chairman: Kim Jae-wan, Vice President of the Institute for Basic Science), held a quantum technology expert seminar in November, and hosted a quantum forum for general companies and citizens in December.
This year, Busan is promoting its “Quantum Initiative” by discovering and nurturing companies utilizing quantum technology and supporting the cultivation of quantum education talents.
