President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 26th (local time) that "the summit with President Biden will be a historic milestone marking a new beginning for the ROK-US alliance as a global alliance for world peace and prosperity."
In his opening remarks at the small-scale ROK-US summit held that morning at the Oval Office of the White House in Washington DC, President Yoon said, "The ROK-US alliance is a value alliance based on the universal value of liberal democracy."

In particular, President Yoon emphasized the significance of the ROK-US alliance. He said, "The ROK-US alliance is a value alliance based on the universal value of liberal democracy; it is not a convenient contractual relationship that meets and parts according to interests," adding, "It is an alliance with strong resilience that lasts forever based on values and can fully resolve issues through consultation even when there are differing opinions on current matters." He expressed confidence that this summit would become a milestone for the ROK-US alliance as a global alliance.
Earlier, President Biden also described the ROK-US alliance in his opening remarks as "a strong partnership capable of overcoming any challenges that lie ahead." He continued, "Our alliance is evident in the Indo-Pacific region," stating, "It is a core pillar of regional security and prosperity," and explained, "This can be seen in South Korea hosting the Democracy Summit, as well as in helping Ukraine protect democracy in the face of Russia's invasion."
He also highly praised the ROK-Japan summit held last month. President Biden said, "I appreciate the bold and principled diplomatic decisions with Japan," and added, "We will strengthen the trilateral partnership, which I believe will have a tremendous impact."

Meanwhile, at the small-scale summit held that day, from the Korean side, Foreign Minister Park Jin, National Security Office Director Cho Tae-yong, and First Deputy Director of National Security Kim Tae-hyo attended. From the U.S. side, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan were present.
