Requests Cooperation for the 2030 Busan World Expo Bid, Anticipates Exchange and Cooperation Among Local Councils of Each City
On the morning of the 25th at 10 a.m., Kim Hyun-ki, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, held a meeting with a delegation of parliamentarians and council members from six countries including the United States and Australia to discuss mutual cooperation between legislatures.
In particular, Chairman Kim stated, “Korea is currently uniting the central government, local governments, and all citizens to secure the hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo,” and asked for their collective support.
The visiting delegation included ▲ Graham Perrett, Chair of the Public Works Committee of the Australian Parliament ▲ Jihad Parkradoni, President of the Korea-Lebanon Parliamentary Friendship Association ▲ Rob Pitts, Chair of the Board of Fulton County Government, Atlanta, U.S. ▲ Sam Park, Member of the Georgia State House of Representatives, U.S. ▲ Kayode Akiolu, Member of the Nigerian Federal House of Representatives ▲ Sandra Tadeu, Member of the S?o Paulo City Council, Brazil ▲ Natalie Arias, Second Secretary of the Ecuadorian National Assembly, totaling seven members.
They visited Korea at the invitation of the Korea Foundation (KF) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to understand Korea’s central and local legislative systems and to deepen their understanding of key diplomatic issues.
In his welcoming remarks, Chairman Kim said, “It is an honor to meet parliamentarians and city council members from various countries here at the Seoul Metropolitan Council,” adding, “If given the opportunity, I hope that exchanges and cooperation for mutual understanding among local councils and joint resolution of urban issues will continue.”
The delegation exchanged diverse opinions on the driving forces behind Seoul’s development, the high political participation rate of the younger generation, and women’s political participation.
Chairman Kim stated, “The development of Korea and Seoul was made possible through the help and exchanges with many countries and cities,” and added, “Seoul will actively support cities in need.”
He also explained, “The high political participation of the younger generation and women is based on Korea’s dynamic democratic experience and education.”
