Ulsan Office of Education, Creating a Human Rights-Friendly Culture in School Sports Teams
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education supports initiatives such as ‘Education Visiting Schools’ to foster a human rights-friendly culture within school sports teams.
Along with this, following last year, a school violence survey and subsequent measures will be conducted for all student athletes.
They will visit schools operating sports teams with different genders to inspect, provide human rights education for student athletes and coaches, conduct (sexual) violence prevention training, and hold roundtable discussions with representative student athletes from each sport.
The Ulsan Office of Education recently held a first-half meeting of the Student Athlete Human Rights Protection Promotion Team in the policy conference room to discuss last year’s performance and areas for improvement.
The Student Athlete Human Rights Protection Promotion Team was the first consultative body nationwide established by the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education in 2019 after the ice skating-related (sexual) violence incident, aiming to eradicate human rights violations and (sexual) violence against student athletes.
The Promotion Team holds two meetings annually to discuss policies on the educational management of school sports teams and seek improvement measures.
In March, the Office of Education formed a nine-member Student Athlete Human Rights Protection Promotion Team led by the Deputy Superintendent.
