Goseong-gun and Okayama Prefecture's Kasaoka City in Japan Form 'International Sister City' Partnership
Agreement to Strengthen Friendly and Cooperative Relations through Active Exchange
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has signed a sister city agreement with Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.
Kasaoka City invited Goseong-gun for the sister city agreement, and from the 24th to the 26th, a delegation of about 10 people including County Governor Lee Sang-geun, Chairman Choi Eul-seok of the Goseong County Council, and council members visited Kasaoka City.
The sister city agreement ceremony held on the 25th took place at the Kasaoka Civic Hall, attended by Governor Lee, Chairman Choi, Kasaoka Mayor Kobayashi Yoshifumi, Kasaoka City Council Chairman Seno Hiroyuki, and representatives of various Japanese social organizations, totaling about 200 people.

View original imageThe event proceeded with watching a video showing the exchanges from the first interaction between the two cities in 2008 to the present, reflecting on the progress made so far, followed by the signing of the agreement.
The agreement includes ▲ promoting mutual prosperity through exchanges and cooperative projects in various fields such as economy, cultural tourism, education, and administration while adhering to the principles of equality and reciprocity ▲ mutual information exchange and cooperation to achieve the shared interests and objectives of exchange and cooperation projects.
Additionally, Governor Lee and the Goseong delegation visited Niyoshi Junior High School in Kasaoka City to observe students' classes and toured the school overall, holding a meeting with the principal and the education director in preparation for the visit of the Kasaoka youth exchange group to Goseong in August.
Governor Lee stated, “Through this agreement ceremony, we have solidified the foundation for continuous exchange and mutual development with Kasaoka City. Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will strengthen cooperation between the two cities by exploring various exchange directions beyond youth exchanges and visits to each other’s events.”
Kasaoka City is located in the southwestern part of Okayama Prefecture, adjacent to Hiroshima Prefecture to the west. It is a maritime city with many regional similarities to Goseong-gun, such as a similar population size, a dinosaur theme park, and a yacht marina.
Goseong-gun and Kasaoka City have been visiting each other annually, mainly focusing on youth exchanges.

Although exchanges were suspended for two years due to COVID-19, since last year, the Goseong youth exchange group has visited Kasaoka City, and Kasaoka City has visited Goseong for Goseong Citizens’ Day and the Dinosaur World Expo, resuming active exchange activities.
