KOSPI Starts Slightly Lower... Foreigners and Institutions Sell Together
On the 26th, the domestic stock market started off slightly lower.
As of 9:06 a.m. that day, the KOSPI index stood at 2,485.06, down 3.96 points (0.16%) from the previous trading day. In the stock market, individual investors were net buyers with 87.6 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions were net sellers with 59.6 billion KRW and 26.4 billion KRW, respectively.
Among the top market capitalization groups in the stock market, Samsung Electronics (-0.31%) and LG Chem (-0.40%) saw slight declines in their stock prices. On the other hand, LG Energy Solution (0.91%), SK Hynix (1.99%), Samsung Biologics (0.13%), and Samsung SDI (1.41%) were on the rise. In particular, Hyundai Motor, which recorded an operating profit of over 3 trillion KRW in the first quarter alone, achieving its best-ever performance, traded up 1.74% at 204,500 KRW in early trading. Kia Motors was also trading up 1.96% at 88,300 KRW.
Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, "Despite the sharp decline in the US stock market due to banking sector crises and recession fears, SK Hynix, Kia Motors, and other major companies are expected to rebound as they digest earnings issues following four consecutive days of sharp declines, which were perceived as an overreaction."
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was down 3.71 points (0.44%) from the previous trading day, standing at 835.00. Individual investors were net buyers with 110.9 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions were net sellers with 79.8 billion KRW and 33.2 billion KRW, respectively.
Among the top market capitalization groups in KOSDAQ, stock price trends were mixed. EcoPro BM (-1.18%), Celltrion Healthcare (-1.29%), HLB (-1.61%), and Celltrion Pharm (-1.79%) were declining, while EcoPro (0.17%), L&F (0.18%), and JYP Ent. (1.52%) showed slight gains.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate was trading at 1,339.60 KRW, down 2.40 KRW (0.18%) from the previous trading day.
