Gyeonggi-do Expands Public-Type Daycare Centers to 650 Locations
Gyeonggi Province will expand the number of public-type daycare centers to around 650 this year.
Public-type daycare centers are designated among excellent private and home daycare centers, receiving operational support and providing high-quality childcare services to infants and young children under strengthened operational standards.
Daycare centers that meet nine basic participation requirements, including having the highest grade or score within the validity period of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's evaluation and certification, are selected annually after assessing the professionalism of childcare staff.
Public-type daycare centers receive support based on the number of teachers, classes, and children, including ▲ 400,000 KRW per month per basic education class ▲ 600,000 KRW per month per preschool class ▲ 15,000 KRW per child for education and environment expenses, 30,000 KRW for operational activation expenses ▲ and cooking staff wages according to the size of the children.
Public-type daycare centers are re-designated every three years, must maintain the highest grade in daycare center evaluations, and comply with strict evaluation criteria such as active participation in quality management projects.
This year, the province re-designated 29 out of 33 centers eligible for re-designation in the first half, excluding those that were suspended, closed, or voluntarily ceased operation.
Currently, there are 596 public-type daycare centers in the province, and an additional 54 centers will be designated through a public recruitment process in July.
