Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is operating the ‘2023 Gwangjin-gu Residents Sharing Market’ to promote environmental protection practices, receiving great responses from residents.
The ‘Gwangjin-gu Residents Sharing Market’ is an eco-friendly market where residents directly buy and sell usable secondhand goods. By sharing items no longer in use with neighbors, resources can be saved and waste reduced. From 2015 through last year, a total of 1,008 sales booths were operated, with about 3,023 participants, making it a thriving event every year.
This year, the first market opened on the 22nd in front of exits 1 and 2 of Children’s Grand Park Station. Thirty-eight teams set up sales booths, sharing various items such as toys, books, tableware, bags, and clothing.
Participants are provided with a 3㎡ space. Any recyclable items such as clothes, shoes, books, cooking utensils, and tableware are allowed. Sellers can secure their desired spot on a first-come, first-served basis on the day by bringing the items to sell, a mat, and price tags. However, the sale of new products or counterfeit luxury goods for commercial purposes is restricted.
Sales profits can be donated voluntarily. Ten percent of the proceeds can be donated under the individual’s name to the Community Chest of Korea to help neighbors in need.
Various side events are also prepared at the venue. Activities such as ▲ making AR constellation mood lamps ▲ making natural soap using paprika ▲ making sock yarn bag keyrings offer unique fun. Not only children but the whole family can participate and create special memories.
Additionally, an ‘Exchange Campaign’ to promote recycling is underway. Milk cartons can be exchanged for tissue paper and designated waste bags, and used batteries can be swapped for new ones. Also, bringing 30 transparent PET bottles allows exchange for one designated waste bag.
The 2nd Sharing Market will be held on May 13, and the 3rd on June 10. Any Gwangjin-gu resident can participate, including children and elementary to high school students. Participants will receive 4 hours of volunteer credit.
Those wishing to participate can apply through the Gwangjin-gu website or local community centers. Applications for the 2nd round are accepted from May 1 to 8, and for the 3rd round from May 29 to June 5. Thirty-eight teams per round will be selected by lottery, and results will be individually notified via text message.
