Goheung-gun Selected for Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation Contest

Following the Ministry of the Interior Model, Jeonnam-Style Youth Village Also Selected

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Gong Young-min) announced that following its selection in the ‘2023 Ministry of the Interior and Safety-type Youth Creation Contest’ on April 7, it was also finally selected on April 24 for the ‘2023 Jeonnam-type Youth Village Creation Contest’ conducted by Jeollanam-do.

The ‘Youth Village Support Project’ is a contest project promoted by Jeollanam-do since 2022 to revitalize local communities by encouraging young people to utilize local resources to solve regional problems on their own, cooperate symbiotically with local residents, and activate the influx of young populations.

In this contest, 34 youth organizations from Jeonnam applied, and through the first document screening, second on-site inspection, and third presentation evaluation, five youth organizations were finally selected. Each organization will receive 300 million KRW in project funds over two years.

The selected project recipient, ‘Ujikhan Chingudeul’ (Representative Lee Young-hoon), prepared a business plan including ▲ Living experience in Gohung ▲ Customized programs for young farmers returning to rural areas ▲ Etiquette programs to become friendly with local residents ▲ Cultural, environmental, employment, and startup programs to help young people experience and naturally settle in Gohung. This plan was highly evaluated for its determination to solve Gohung’s current problem of population decline with youth as the solution.

Gohung-gun plans to enhance the completeness of this Jeonnam-type Youth Village Creation Project by completing expert on-site consulting, youth organization and local government workshops, and business plan supplementation. Starting in June, it will proceed with organizing youth village activity spaces and conducting local living experience programs utilizing local resources to create jobs for residents and encourage young people to settle in Gohung-gun.

A county official stated, “The fact that Gohung-gun was selected for both the Ministry of the Interior and Safety-type and Jeonnam-type Youth Village Creation Contest projects this year proves that Gohung-gun is the optimal region where young people can realize their dreams and hopes. We will continue to make every effort to provide generous support for youth housing, employment, startups, and settlement so that young people can settle down stably.”
