In particular, on the first day, the 20th, a special lecture was held by Jeong Eun-hae, Director of the National Greenhouse Gas Information Center, on international trends in overcoming the climate crisis and suggestions for COP33 hosting activities. This helped create a pre-atmosphere for COP33 hosting with citizens and strengthened the will to host the event.
Additionally, on the 21st, the ‘Plastic Hunting Tour Following the Footsteps of Admiral Yi Sun-sin’ involved students and volunteer groups participating in a unique event combining historical education about Admiral Yi Sun-sin with marine litter collection activities.
Furthermore, on the afternoon of the 22nd, during the commemorative ceremony, Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu attracted attention by walking with about 500 citizens from Cheolgil Park, representing the practice of carbon neutrality in daily life, to the event venue.
In his commemorative speech, Mayor Jeong urged all citizens to continuously practice the carbon neutrality tasks carried out during Climate Protection Week in their daily lives.
A city official stated, “The success of this event was thanks to the increased awareness of climate protection among citizens,” and added, “The city will implement effective policies to fulfill the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Declaration and lay the foundation for hosting COP33 together with the citizens.”
