60th Law Day Ceremony... Lawyer Lee Kwang-su and Chief Prosecutor Im Gwan-hyeok Awarded Medals
The Ministry of Justice and the Korean Bar Association (KBA) held the '60th Law Day Ceremony' at the Government Seoul Office on the 25th, awarding 14 individuals for their contributions to the establishment of the rule of law, protection of human rights, and realization of social justice.
Attorney Lee Kwang-soo (62, Judicial Research and Training Institute Class 17) received the Order of Civil Merit, Mugunghwa Medal. Attorney Lee was recognized for his contributions over the past 35 years as a member of the Supreme Court Sentencing Commission, the Ministry of Justice Special Subcommittee, and the KBA Legislative Committee and Human Rights Committee, advancing judicial human rights and implementing the rule of law. Im Gwan-hyeok, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (57, Class 26), also received the Order of Service Merit, Yellow Stripe for his 26 years of service as a prosecutor, focusing on eradicating corruption crimes such as bribery and corporate misconduct, contributing to the establishment of legal order.
For their contributions to improving legal administration and commercial law systems, Kim Soon-seok, Professor at Chonnam National University Law School (64), Baek Jae-myung, Chief of the Namyangju Branch of Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office (57, Class 26), and Lee Young-rim, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office (52, Class 30) were awarded the Order of Service Merit, Red Stripe.
Lee Soon-guk, Chairman of the Suwon Regional Crime Victim Support Center, who demonstrated dedication and volunteer spirit by donating a building for indigent ex-prisoners, and Kim Hong-sik, Chairman of the Jeonju Regional Council of the Juvenile Crime Prevention Committee, who worked hard on guiding and protecting delinquent youth and preventing crime, were awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaek Medal.
Additionally, seven others including Ahn Gap-jun, judicial scrivener, and Lee Jun-ho, investigative secretary at Daegu District Prosecutors' Office, were recognized for their contributions to protecting socially vulnerable groups and establishing the rule of law, receiving awards such as the National Medal, Presidential Citation, and Prime Minister Citation.
Meanwhile, the event was attended by Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su, Chairman Kim Do-eup of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee, Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon, Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, Secretary General of the Constitutional Court Park Jong-moon, and KBA President Kim Young-hoon.
In his commemorative speech, Chief Justice Kim said, "The fundamental spirit of the 'rule of law' has been the foundation supporting democracy in our society, and its importance cannot be overstated. We will not cease efforts to ensure fair trials trusted by the people."
Yu Nam-seok, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, emphasized, "The Constitutional Court, as the last bastion for protecting the basic rights of the people, will strive to ensure that the values and principles of the Constitution are well implemented across all areas of state activities and social life."
Minister Han stated, "The safety of the people, especially safety from crime, is an essential prerequisite for all citizens to pursue happiness," and pledged to improve crime prevention systems and respond firmly to corruption crimes and fake news that undermine community trust.

KBA President Kim Young-hoon also said, "We will do our best to protect the public nature of the legal market and establish the rule of law for the people."
