Chairman Kim Hyun-gi Awards Commendations to 21 Outstanding Legislative Monitors
Chairman Kim: “Local autonomy is achieved through resident participation; thank you for your active involvement”
On the 24th, Kim Hyun-gi, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, presented commendations to 21 outstanding legislative monitors of the Seoul Metropolitan Council who contributed to legislation through active participation and excellent opinion proposals.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council legislative monitors play a role in monitoring major city policies and providing policy ideas regarding inconveniences in citizens’ daily lives. A total of 211 monitors were appointed last July and are currently active.
The 21 recipients of the commendations were monitors who demonstrated excellent activities from September to December 2022.
Chairman Kim Hyun-gi stated, “Citizen participation is crucial in democracy. In particular, local autonomy is realized through resident participation, not just the council or Seoul city government,” adding, “We appreciate your active participation, and the policy ideas you have provided will be delivered to Seoul city for thorough review.”

He also urged, “The Seoul Metropolitan Council holds two major powers: legislative authority including ordinances, and budget review and approval authority,” and requested, “Please take greater interest in these areas.”
