Wando-gun, Smooth Preparations for Jeonnam Sports Festival Success

Completion of Stadium Facility Renovation with a Total Investment of 1.7 Billion Won

The ‘62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival’ and the ‘31st Jeollanam-do Disabled Sports Festival,’ a sports festival for the unity of 2 million Jeonnam residents, will be held next month in Wando-gun.

According to Wando-gun on the 25th, the Jeonnam Sports Festival will feature 24 events including athletics and soccer, while the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Festival will have 21 events such as goalball and lawn bowls, held at 30 venues.

During the event period, 11,000 athletes (6,000 for the Sports Festival and 5,000 for the Disabled Sports Festival) from 22 cities and counties are expected to participate, and approximately 24,000 spectators (family members of athletes and tourists) are expected to visit the county.

As this is the first time the county is hosting the event since its establishment, the county is accelerating preparations to successfully lead the event with the goals of ‘Successful and Participatory Sports Festival, Safe and Economic Sports Festival, Cultural and Tourism Sports Festival, and Unity and Hope Sports Festival.’

In particular, with a total project budget of 1.7 billion KRW including provincial and county funds, facility repairs are underway at 14 venues, including installation of safety fences at the public stadium, auxiliary tracks for athletics, and installation and relocation of spectator seats at stadiums. The current progress rate is 80%, and all work is planned to be completed by April.

Additionally, renovation work has been completed at venues such as Gogeum National Sports Center, Cheonghaejung, tennis courts, soft tennis courts, farmers and fishermen sports center, Gogeum park golf course, and baseball stadium, and efforts are being made to maintain the best condition of the venues until the festival.

County Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “We are focusing on creating a pleasant and safe environment for athletes, officials, and spectators visiting Wando,” and added, “We will do our best to prepare the event so that this sports festival can serve as a stepping stone for our county to leap forward as a sports city.”
