Foreigners Net Selling... KOSPI and KOSDAQ on a Downtrend
As foreign investors' net selling increases, the KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices, which started higher, are showing a downward trend in the early session.
At 9:15 a.m. on the 25th, the KOSPI was at 2521.86, down 0.06% (1.64 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened at 2531.35, up 0.31% (7.85 points) from the previous day, but soon narrowed its gains and turned to a decline. Looking at investor trends, individuals and institutions bought stocks worth 57.6 billion KRW and 2.3 billion KRW respectively, while foreign investors alone sold stocks worth 59.1 billion KRW.
Last night, the U.S. stock market narrowed its losses in the late session as rebound buying emerged amid expectations and concerns over the earnings announcements of major tech stocks, which was positively reflected in the early domestic market. However, ongoing semiconductor-related tensions between the U.S. and China have caused fluctuations between gains and losses. Sangyoung Seo, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities, said, “Concerns are growing ahead of the major tech stocks' earnings announcements, making increased volatility inevitable,” adding, “The market will focus more on individual stock earnings announcements.”
Among the top market capitalization stocks, LG Energy Solution (0.71%), SK Hynix (0.11%), Samsung SDI (0.55%), and Hyundai Motor (1.04%) rose, while Samsung Electronics (-0.31%), Samsung Biologics (-0.13%), LG Chem (-0.39%), and POSCO Holdings (-1%) declined.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was at 849.34, down 0.67% (5.89 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ opened at 857.54, up 0.27% (2.31 points) from the previous day, but turned downward as foreign and institutional selling continued. Looking at investor trends, foreign and institutional investors sold stocks worth 88.6 billion KRW and 17.4 billion KRW respectively, while individuals bought stocks worth 104 billion KRW alone.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro (0.5%), Celltrion Healthcare (0.44%), HLB (0.18%), JYP Ent. (0.58%), and Osstem Implant (0.16%) rose, while EcoPro BM (-1.48%), L&F (-1.22%), Celltrion Pharm (-0.6%), and Kakao Games (-0.25%) declined.
