Overseas Climber Who Ate Only Hamburger Patties for 56 Days Says "I Became Healthier"
Scottish Rock Climber Dave McCloud
Conducts Experiment to Challenge the Notion That "Meat Consumption Is Harmful to Health"
"Not a Scientific Action, But Hopes to Stimulate Awareness"
A famous Scottish rock climber has sparked controversy by claiming that his health improved after eating hamburger patties every day for two months. He reportedly conducted the experiment to challenge the common belief that a meat-heavy diet is unhealthy.
According to the British tabloid The Sun on the 23rd (local time), Scottish rock climber Dave McCloud recently shared his experience of eating only hamburger patties for two months on his YouTube channel.
For eight weeks, McCloud ate 12 to 16 McDonald's hamburger patties daily, excluding the buns, cheese, and sauces. He avoided French fries and soda, instead drinking tea or a glass of fruit juice.
In the video, he claimed that this carnivorous diet improved his health indicators. His muscle strength significantly increased, allowing him to lift heavier equipment during rock climbing training, and he was able to hang with one hand for longer periods.
He said, "I became stronger and healthier, and my mental health also improved," adding, "Blood test results showed a reduced risk of various health issues, including diabetes and heart disease."
He also stated, "I lost about 3.5 kg in the first month, and my weight stabilized in the second month," and "Despite eating as much as I wanted, I lost body fat and my appetite decreased. The craving for junk food disappeared."
"Dietary restrictions could worsen health" claim
McCloud's experiment aligns with his stance on nutrition. He opposes experts' claims that meat-heavy diets, including red meat, are unhealthy. Generally, excessive meat consumption is known to cause cardiovascular diseases and colon cancer.
However, McCloud argues that this conventional wisdom needs reconsideration. In a post accompanying the video, he stated, "What exactly is the unhealthy Western diet? Is it meat? This is a question I have become interested in over the past few years," presenting his argument.
He said, "I have watched many friends, family members, and others suffer from numerous signs of diet-related diseases. So, this is an important issue for me," adding, "The more evidence I see, the less convinced I am that meat is the cause in this process, and I think dietary restrictions might actually worsen the situation."
He further added, "I'm not suggesting everyone should eat meat, but the fact that such a diet could help some people is worth considering," and "Although it was not a scientific approach, I hope it stimulates people's awareness."
