Gyeonggi-do to Intensify Crackdown on Unregistered Livestock Vehicles Starting July
Gyeonggi Province will strengthen crackdowns on unregistered livestock vehicles starting in July to prevent the spread of livestock infectious diseases. However, before intensifying enforcement, the province will operate a voluntary registration period from May 1 to June 31.
The vehicles subject to crackdown include those transporting livestock, raw milk, eggs, veterinary medicines, feed, livestock manure, composted rice husks, eggs, poultry shipment and loading/unloading personnel entering and exiting livestock facilities, as well as vehicles entering for artificial insemination, consulting, sample collection, quarantine, and machinery repair.
Freight vehicles used for the operation and management inside livestock facilities are also included in the crackdown targets.
In particular, due to recent amendments to the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act, passenger cars and vans owned by livestock facility owners will also be subject to mandatory registration starting October 19.
Livestock vehicle owners must voluntarily register with the relevant city or county office by the end of June and install a vehicle wireless identification device (GPS). The entry and exit information of these vehicles at livestock facilities will be used by quarantine authorities to carry out livestock infectious disease control tasks.
Failure to register livestock vehicles or to install GPS will result in penalties under the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act, including up to one year imprisonment or a fine of up to 10 million KRW.
Additionally, livestock vehicle owners and drivers must complete education related to livestock vehicle registration within three months before or after vehicle registration. Furthermore, refresher training must be completed every four years.
