Busan Gijang-gun Signs Amendment Agreement for Construction of the 'Korea Baseball Hall of Fame'
Change of Museum Management Authority to Gijang-gun
Busan Gijang-gun has signed a revised implementation agreement with Busan City and the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) for the successful promotion of the Korea Baseball Hall of Fame.
The 'Korea Baseball Hall of Fame' construction project is a KBO Korea Baseball 100th Anniversary commemorative public project to build a museum that captures the history of Korean baseball and a Hall of Fame honoring baseball-related figures.
In 2011, amid competition with Seoul and Incheon, Busan City and Gijang-gun joined forces to attract the project to Busan, the 'baseball city.'
With the signing of this revised implementation agreement, the operation method of the Hall of Fame has shifted from KBO consignment operation to direct management by Gijang-gun.
As the construction, operation, and ownership of the Hall of Fame have been transferred to the county, Gijang-gun now holds full leadership of the project, which is expected to enable prompt project promotion and substantial operation.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “The Hall of Fame has been a long-cherished project for our county, and with the signing of this revised implementation agreement, we can now proceed with the project promptly,” adding, “We will spare no effort to actively support the smooth promotion of the project for the regional development of Gijang-gun and the expansion of the base of Korean baseball.”
The Hall of Fame construction project, initiated in 2014, aims to create Korea’s first, largest, and most comprehensive Korean Baseball Museum that records, preserves, and exhibits the history of Korean baseball.
The Korean Baseball Museum is being developed on a site of 1,852㎡ within Ilgwang Amusement Park (Gijang Baseball Theme Park) in Gijang-gun, with a total floor area of 2,996.2㎡ across one basement floor and three above-ground floors, targeting an opening in 2026.
The museum will exhibit approximately 50,000 artifacts owned by the KBO and will host baseball-related programs and special events such as annual induction ceremonies.

Currently, the Hall of Fame construction project has passed the first and second rounds of feasibility reviews for establishing a public museum by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and has been selected as a final candidate. The final evaluation is scheduled for the end of this month. If it passes the evaluation, it will receive official approval as a public museum.
