Overview of 'New Growth Engines'... Bio Korea 2023 Held
The Korea Health Industry Development Institute announced on the 24th that it will jointly host 'BIO KOREA 2023' with Chungcheongbuk-do from June 10 to 12 at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This BIO KOREA 2023 will be held as a conference introducing innovative technologies aligned with the latest trends in the biohealth industry. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the biohealth industry has increased, and in line with the government’s policy to create new biohealth markets, BIO KOREA 2023 focuses on sharing the latest technology trends and visions in the biohealth industry under the theme of 'Leap to New Growth Innovative Technologies in the Hyperconnected Era.'
The conference will be conducted through 21 sessions across 11 topics including regenerative medicine, vaccines, and gene therapy. Over 120 experts with master's and doctoral degrees from 13 countries in the biohealth field will participate, sharing and discussing the latest issues and technology-business trends covering the entire industry.
On the first day, June 10, special sessions such as ‘Digital Transformation’ will be held, along with sessions on gene therapy, contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), and healthcare big data. The Digital Transformation session will begin with a presentation by Jaejun Ryu, General Director of Naver Cloud, a leading domestic medical cloud company, followed by multiple domestic and international speakers sharing the current status, investment trends, and success cases of the digital transformation industry. The gene therapy session, spotlighted as the next-generation new drug, will explore global companies’ success stories to seek strategies for domestic companies’ global expansion, while the CDMO session will share cases and strategies of R&D outsourcing by big pharma companies.
The healthcare big data session, held over two days from June 10 to 11, will share the current status of precision medical service support systems created by the digitalization and advancement of healthcare big data production and analysis, related policies, and government project progress, and discuss directions for data activation and development.
On the second day, June 11, along with a special session themed ‘The New Normal of Clinical Trials,’ the latest research and development trends on vaccines, regenerative medicine, artificial intelligence (AI) drug development, and healthcare big data will be introduced. The special session will start with a presentation by Dr. Cynthia Verst of IQVIA, a global new drug development clinical service company, sharing global clinical trends including decentralized clinical trials (DCT) and exploring ways to activate next-generation clinical trials domestically. The vaccine and regenerative medicine sessions will involve many research groups and related organizations conducting national R&D projects to review research and development status and explore utilization strategies and development directions for the industry. Additionally, the AI drug development session will examine domestic and international cases of AI-based drug development used from basic research to preclinical stages and introduce the commercialization status of AI research outputs and patent strategies for intellectual property protection.
On the final day, June 12, sessions on ‘Blockbuster Patent Expiry,’ ‘Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADC),’ and ‘Converged Technology Medical Devices’ will be held. The blockbuster patent expiry session will introduce the patent status and litigation precedents of blockbuster drugs and discuss strategies for original and generic drugs in response to patent expiration. The ADC session, themed on Korea’s new approach to blockbuster ADC development, will share the current status of ADC research and development among government, industry, and academia and seek successful domestic ADC development strategies. The converged technology medical devices session will discuss the latest trends in micro- and nanorobots, a new concept of medical devices, along with technology development and commercialization by disease type.
