Owner Who Lost Toe to Bulldog While Sleeping, Instead Says "Thank You"
A man in the UK was able to detect diabetic complications early and receive successful treatment thanks to his pet dog biting his toes to the point where the bones were visible, which otherwise could have led to the amputation of his foot.
He said, "Losing one toe actually saved me from losing an entire leg."
The New York Post on the 19th (local time) introduced the story of 64-year-old David Lindsay from Cambridge, UK, and his pet bulldog, Harley.
Lindsay was taking a nap on the sofa with his pet bulldog Harley when he was suddenly attacked. Harley suddenly bit his big toe.
He was asleep and unaware that his dog was biting his foot until his wife came home and screamed. Known for their keen awareness, bulldogs like Harley bit down until the toe bone was visible. His wife woke Lindsay up, saying, "The dog is chewing your toe!"
The 7-month-old dog broke several teeth while biting the toe. Lindsay recalled, "I couldn't believe my best friend (Harley) did such a thing."
However, the doctor treating Lindsay said it was a "miracle." While treating the toe, they discovered that Lindsay, who had diabetes, was suffering from worsening complications causing the toe to rot.
Lindsay injured her toe because of her pet dog but avoided a bigger disaster by discovering a more serious illness.

Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by prolonged high blood sugar levels, which can worsen blood circulation due to cardiovascular disease and increased cholesterol levels, sometimes leading to toe amputation.
Hospital CT scans (computed tomography) revealed that two arteries in Lindsay's leg were on the verge of blockage. Had treatment been delayed, the lack of blood flow would have necessitated leg amputation, a critical situation.
Lindsay said, "I only realized at the hospital that my foot was completely numb and paralyzed." He received appropriate treatment to prevent the situation from worsening. Lindsay emphasized, "Losing one toe actually saved me from losing an entire leg."
