Russia Opposes G7 Sanctions Push, Warns of Worsening Global Economic Crisis
The Group of Seven (G7) faced backlash from Russia as it pushed for additional sanctions against the country, with Russia warning that such measures would "deepen the global economic crisis."
On the 21st (local time), according to major foreign media, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, said during a phone conference with reporters regarding the G7's push for sanctions, "We are watching carefully. We are aware that the United States and the European Union (EU) are actively considering new sanctions."
Earlier, Kyodo News reported, citing a Japanese government official, that the G7 is considering a plan to ban exports of almost all items to Russia.
Peskov also stated, "We believe that the current sanctions against Russia, along with the additional measures being considered by the US and EU, will also harm the global economy," adding, "They will accelerate the trend toward a global economic crisis."
