Telecom 3 Companies and POSCO Cooperate to Secure Disaster Safety Communication System at Steelworks
SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, the three major telecommunications companies, announced on the 21st that they have signed a business agreement with POSCO to "improve and rapidly restore mobile phone communication networks for disaster preparedness at steel mills."
This agreement was made to establish an organic joint response system in the event of a disaster at steel mills, which are key national industries, to achieve rapid normalization of mobile communication equipment.
Last year, POSCO suffered significant damage when Typhoon Hinnamnor caused the Pohang Naengcheon to flood, submerging the entire steel mill. At that time, mobile communication equipment within the steel mill was also submerged, resulting in communication outages.
Through this agreement, POSCO and the three telecom companies plan to relocate mobile communication equipment vulnerable to flooding and power outages within the steel mill to reduce the risk of submersion, and to strengthen communication infrastructure and improve the environment by expanding emergency generators.
Additionally, even in the worst-case scenarios such as damage or collapse of mobile communication facilities, they will select key priority recovery sites to ensure minimum communication is possible by establishing a backup system, and build an emergency response system to enable organic cooperation between POSCO and each telecom company.
Furthermore, they agreed to mutually cooperate in tasks for rapid recovery during disasters, including ▲support for equipment and manpower needed for recovery ▲operation of hotlines ▲joint response training.
