The lit torch was passed from Juseonnyeo to the county governor and the head of the county sports association, then transferred to the torch relay vehicle called the Jonghwacha around 8:30 a.m., and the relay proceeded over a distance of 182.82 km.
The torch relay, covering a total of 182.82 km from Mangyangjeong Sunrise Park in Uljin to Uljin Sports Complex, was conducted through both vehicle and runner relays.
Among these, the runner relay was organized into 10 teams, each consisting of 8 runners: 1 main runner, 1 sub-runner, and 6 escort runners. They toured all 10 eup and myeon districts, relaying the torch over 10 sections totaling 4.12 km.
The fire lit at Mangyangjeong Sunrise Park on that day and the fire lit at Tohamsan in Gyeongju were combined and enshrined at Yeonho Sports Park. After the opening ceremony on the 21st, the torch will be carried to the sports complex during the send-off ceremony and ignited there.
The torch lighting event during the opening ceremony is also a highlight. The final runner will board an aerial performance device called Aerial and ignite the small torch stand. Then, a drone will fly toward the main torch stand at the sports complex, lighting the flame on the main torch stand.
Thereafter, the torch will burn brightly at the torch stand, illuminating the venue 24 hours a day throughout the event.
